Vocational Education and Training (VET), Workplace Learning (WPL) and Careers
The Sowilo Community High School Vocational Education and Training (VET) program allows senior school students to take part in nationally recognised qualifications.
These programs are stand-alone, fully funded Certificate qualifications within the Australian Qualification Framework. They may be delivered at Sowilo Community High School or a local State Training Provider.
These courses offer students still enrolled in secondary school the ability to study within an adult learning environment on TAFE campuses. Students will study at TAFE for 1 or 2 days per week while attending school for the remainder of the week.
Sowilo will work with students in years 10 and 11 to secure positions in courses of their interest for years 11 and 12.
These course offerings delivered by South Metro Tafe (VET delivered to secondary students) change each year based on industry needs, but some of the usual options are:
- Certificate II in Automotive Vehicle Preparation (Heavy, Light, Spray Painting or Electrical focus)
- Certificate II Building and Construction Pathways
- Certificate II Community Services (Early Childhood Focus)
- Certificate II in Electronics
- Certificate III in Cybersecurity
- Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics
- Certificate II in Salon Assistant
- Certificate III in Events
- Certificate I and II in Workplace Skills
- Certificate I and II in Workplace Skills
- Certificate I in Volunteering
Endorsed Programs
Workplace Learning (WPL)
Workplace Learning (WPL) is an authority-developed endorsed program that provides an opportunity for a student to demonstrate and develop increasing competence in the core skills for work.
It is a great opportunity for students to improve their workplace and employability skills whilst providing them with an opportunity to work in a range of industry areas.
To complete this endorsed program, a student works in a real workplace environment to develop a set of transferable workplace skills.
The student must record the number of hours completed and the tasks undertaken in the workplace in a Workplace Learning Logbook. The student must also provide evidence of their knowledge and understanding of the workplace skills by completing a Workplace Learning Skills Journal after each 55 hours completed in the workplace.
Keys For Life
Keys4Life is a comprehensive, national, award-winning, evidence-based, pre-driver program that assists parents, schools, and agencies in educating young people about safer road use.
It also provides licensing and graduation benefits.
It can be implemented in schools with Year 10-12 students and in agencies with young adults. The program is funded by the Road Safety Commission, administered by SDERA, and delivered by registered Keys4Life facilitators. Sowilo offers the Keys4Life program to students aged 16 years and over.

We aim to create fun and exciting subjects such as Life Skills, Protective Behaviours and Community Service that engage students and deliver a variety of English, Maths, Science, History, Geography and Art skills.
